Police in Ballari have registered a case against five individuals, including two inmates and the wife of one prisoner, for allegedly conspiring to transfer money into the bank account of a prison official without his consent. The complaint was filed by Timmanna Bhimappa Bhajantri, an assistant superintendent at Ballari Central Prison, who stated that the transfers were made as part of a scheme against him.

According to the complaint, inmate N Srinivas Gowda contacted his wife, Navya, from inside the prison on October 18 and allegedly instructed her to transfer Rs 5,001 to Bhajantri’s State Bank of India account via a UPI transaction. Bhajantri claimed he became aware of this transaction through another inmate, Abhishek alias Kooli. A further sum of Rs 3,000 was allegedly transferred to his account on the morning of October 19 through a UPI ID linked to undertrial prisoner Nari alias Narendra Kumar, using the mobile number of Suresh.

Bhajantri alleged that the inmates were acting out of resentment after he had seized mobile phones and other prohibited items from them and relocated them to a different barrack. Based on the complaint lodged on October 19, police registered a case against Srinivas Gowda, Abhishek alias Kooli, Narendra Kumar alias Nari, Navya, and Suresh under BNS sections 318(4) and 62(2) read with 3(5).
