Former minister B. Shriramulu and former MLA G. Somashekhara Reddy staged a protest in Ballari on the Bengaluru Road, demanding strict regulation of tipper truck traffic following three separate accidents that claimed three lives within a few days. The fatalities occurred in the Guggarahatti, Eidgah Maidan, and Radio Park areas of the city, all involving heavy vehicles. During the road blockade, Shriramulu questioned the accountability for the deaths of three innocent citizens in just two days, asking why local administration and representatives have not taken notice despite these incidents. The protesters alleged that tipper trucks are being allowed to operate within the city to benefit illegal transporters of light, gravel, and sand, prioritizing their interests over public safety. They demanded a complete ban on tipper truck movement in the Ballari city area during daytime and strict action against rule-breaking vehicles. The protest caused significant traffic disruption on major city roads, with vehicles queuing on both sides and causing inconvenience to the public. A meeting of the District Road Safety Committee is scheduled for 4 pm today in the conference hall of the new District Collector’s office, presided over by the District Collector. The Police Commissioner’s office has issued a directive requiring officers from various departments to attend the meeting mandatorily with necessary information regarding road safety.
